"Nature shows us only the tail of the lion. But there is no doubt in my mind that the lion belongs with it even if he cannot reveal himself to the eye all at once because of his huge dimension." - Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein (1879-1955) needs no formal introduction. He is remembered around the world as one of history's most brilliant geniuses, and one of its most influential scientists. Einstein is often regarded as the father of modern physics, and he received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics "for his services to theoretical physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect". And though he is best known for his contributions to science with over 300 scientific papers, the witty Einstein also wrote over 150 non-scientific works, many of them infused with his humor. The entire package of his life and career has ensured that people continue to describe intelligent people as "Einsteins".

Einstein's greatest and most famous theory is the theory of relativity, which fundamentally changed the understanding of physics and astronomy during the 20th century. When first published, relativity superseded a 200-year-old theory of mechanics put forth by Isaac Newton. The theory of relativity overturned the concept of motion from Newton's day, into all motion is relative. Time was no longer uniform and absolute. Therefore, physics is no longer understood as space by itself, and time by itself. Instead, an added dimension had to be taken into account in the form of curved spacetime. Time now depended on velocity, and contraction became a fundamental consequence at appropriate speeds.

A GENIUS, A CHAUVINIST, A PACIFIST
By Vickie Woodard
Albert Einstein was many things in his life and continues to be many things though he's been dead more than fifty years. I kept a poster in my classroom with what was probably his goofiest picture and his quote that, "Imagination is more important than intelligence."
It amazed me that my slowest students could quote the theory of relativity, but my brightest didn't know what the letters stood for. Understanding is at least as important as knowing. If I hadn't decided to be cremated I'd have had that put on my tombstone.
The man's attitude towards women disgusted me. I knew he had simply dropped his first wife and once read that she may have written that famous formula. But the things he insisted upon!! I would have had his visitors sign in (on the pretext that good old Al might want to send flowers later ) and then publish a 'Mrs. Einstein Tells All' book. Bet it would've been a best seller. The American public has always enjoyed reading trash about famous people.
At least the cash from his Nobel Prize was well spent. First time I'd heard that story.
The trouble with writing a book about such a famous person is finding something new to say. I'm glad the authors spent little time on the Manhattan Project. That era of Einstein's life must be the most publicized of all, including his quote about his involvement. Who can blame him? I don't think anyone knew how fierce the bombs would be, or how long the effects would last
The most interesting piece I've read about Albert Einstein was published in the Readers Digest. AE saw a man get up and leave a musical program given in a private home so he got up and followed the man. The guy complained that he had never enjoyed such music and Al took him under his wing.
Instead of trying to explain Bach or Mozart, the physics genius sought out a room with a musical instrument in it (pardon me for forgetting if it was a piano or a violin). He then played the most basic baby music he could, music that went down to the stranger's level, to try and interest him.
And it worked.
Each time the stranger's interest was piqued, Einstein played another piece of music just a tiny bit more complicated. The two of them spent hours alone in that room.
But when they left, Einstein had taught him to love classical music; he had won him over bit by bit.
I didn't expect to see that story in this book, but still, nothing in this book can touch it.
But there were plenty of facts in this book I didn't know: his attitude toward his own religion, his feelings about the Japanese people, his relationship with his children, what happened to his first child...
Too many things to name.
That's why the book got five stars.

Legendary Scientists: The Life of Albert Einstein details his life and his career in vivid detail
By Christopher J. Cowen
Legendary Scientists: The Life of Albert Einstein is a good book that I found pretty comprehensive for only being 64 pages. The included pictures and even Albert Einstein's own quotes about his life and career. The book did a good job at showing how important Albert Einstein was to science and humanity. But the book also showed you what he was like as a man. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

Thank you for reading my review.
