I purchased this text for my hematology course in college. This book can be very difficult to read if you are not familiar with different medical abbreviations. I find myself having to reread the chapters a few times to understand the material. This text would be great if it were used with another text for further clarification. A great thing about this text are the reference ranges in the front and back of the book, they are very helpful and nicely placed. The chapters all have a case study based on the material in each chapter as well as a quiz and answers in the back. Good text for studying Hematology.

Rent only. Don't own it.

This book was not well written. When explaining concepts, it jumps from one place to the other with no real sequential order. The book is often difficult to follow because of this lack of organization. I'm glad I'm only renting this book for a course and do not own this book. I advise the same for you.

I would not recommend it as a student textbook

This is one of the most technical books I've ever read. It was very difficult to get through. Ultimately, I found myself relying more on classroom notes and powerpoints than this book. It seems to be written for people who are already experts. I would only attempt to read the chapters with my computer running in front of me so I could look up the meaning of the words. It was not what I would call student friendly. I would not recommend it as a student textbook.
